Applying for a Driving Test –
Private Car & Light Goods Vehicle 英文私家車/輕型貨車

To apply for a driving test in Hong Kong, you need to pay for:

(1) A learner's driver's licence and
(2) The exam fee

The costs are:

After applying for the driving test:

• You will have a written test after approximately three to four weeks.

• Upon passing the written test, the Transport Department will provide you with your road test information including location and time.

• The road test appointment date is approximately three months after the written test.

• After passing your written test, you can book driving lessons with our instructors.

• If you satisfied with the instructor, he will teach you until you finish you road test.

• If you want to change your instructor, you can phone Lee Kin Driving School at

2390 0700 or 2577 9921.

• Lee Kin Driving School will arrange your lessons with the same instructor and the same vehicle for every lesson.

• For your road test, you will use the same vehicle which you use during your lessons.

• If you pass the road test, you will need to pay $90 to the Transport Department to get a probationary classes driver's lience which is for one year.? If you do not get any serious traffic accident within the following year (one year), you can pay $900 to apply a full lience which is valid for ten years.

• However, if you fail the written test or road test, you will need to pay another $510 to the Transport Department to apply for another test.

• Note: The learner's driver's licence is only valid for one year. If your driver's licence has expired, you will need to purchase a new one.

Exams and types of vehicles you can operate:

• In Hong Kong, if you pass a private car exam, you can only drive private cars;

• However, if you pass a light goods vehicle exam, you can drive both private cars and light goods vehicles.

• If you pass an automatic car exam, you can only drive automatic cars;

• However, if you pass a manual car exam, you can drive both automatic and manual cars.

You can only choose your road test region in Kowloon side or Hong Kong side. After you choose your desired road test area (either Kowloon side or Hong Kong side), the transport department will arrange the exact location for your road test in that area.

Example: Suppose you choose to have your road test in Kowloon side. After the road test location has been arranged at one of the locations in Kowloon side, you cannot change the road test location unless you change your road test region to Hong Kong side.

Application for postponement of test: Your test form shall be invalidated if you do not turn up for the test at the prescribed time and place unless written application for postponement is received by the commissioner for Transport at least seven clear days before the test. (Note: For the purposes of satisfying the requirement of seven days of notice, the day of the scheduled test and that day on which the notice is deemed to be given are excluded. In other words, there should be seven days between the two dates. If the application is sent by post, the date of the postmark is taken as the day on which the notice is deemed to be received. If the application is sent by drop box, the date of dropping the application is taken as the application received. In addition, candidate should submit the signed written application for postponement together with the copy of identification document.

All postponement or change of site (from Hong Kong to Kowloon or vice-versa cases) will be placed at the end of the waiting list.
Your test form is only valid for a period of 18 months from the date of its issue. If your test form expires at the time of your next driving test appointment so arranged subsequent to this application, you have to purchase a new test form before you can take the test.
